African Children’s Library

  Built for Africa’s Children

The African Children’s Library is a continental digital library created to preserve, celebrate and share Africa’s stories, languages, cultures, history, education and knowledge with the next generation.

It is more than a collection of books. It is a living library designed specifically for children – one that can grow continuously as authors, educators, publishers, elders, cultural organizations, Governments and communities contribute the knowledge of their people.

One African Library. Nationally Owned.

Every participating country builds and controls its own African Children’s Library.

Each national library can preserve its own books, languages, stories, music, history, curriculum and cultural knowledge while allowing children to discover approved content from across the continent.

The country determines what belongs in its library and what is distributed to its children. The continental organization provides the technology, publishing tools, hosting, training and operational support needed to make it possible.

A Library Children Want to Visit

Children do not enter a database or navigate complicated menus. They enter a library.

Stacks welcomes them, learns what interests them and helps them discover books, stories and experiences – from football and dinosaurs to science, princesses and African folklore.

The objective is not simply to make children read. It is to help children fall in love with reading.

African Stories. African Voices.

The African Children’s Library creates a permanent home for the knowledge that already exists within Africa.

Local authors and illustrators can publish. Elders can tell stories in their own languages. Communities can preserve oral histories, songs and traditions. Educators can contribute learning resources. Ministries can provide approved curriculum materials.

Children can grow up reading the great stories of the world – alongside the stories of their own people.

Education Without Dependence on the Internet

The Library is designed to reach children whether or not reliable internet exists.

Books, stories, educational resources, language materials, cultural archives and curriculum can live directly on dedicated Freedom Tablets. New approved material can be distributed securely through EduConnect™ using schools, libraries and authorized educational facilities as synchronization points.

Children receive an expanding digital library without requiring unrestricted access to the Internet.

A Library That Grows With Africa

Governments, publishers, schools, libraries, foundations, NGOs, authors, educators, cultural organizations and technology partners can all participate.

Each contribution expands the collection while local review and national ownership protect the integrity of what children receive.

The result is simultaneously a literacy initiative, an education initiative, a language-preservation initiative, a cultural archive and a connection between Africa’s children.

The goal is not merely to teach children how to read. The goal is to ensure that what they read belongs to them.
